Youth chased and blocked Immigration officials in a blue starlet Toyota car in Lakare, behind Agric Quarters, Yola North Local Government area of Adamawa.
The Youth who are holding heavy sticks, iron rod and adders shouting “We will die with you here if you didn’t let our Brother go free”, surrounded the vehicle and forcefully evicted one officer who identify himself as Ibrahim from the car, but vowed never to follow them to the main office for interrogation.
The Irate Youth staged a protest in front of one Steven Maduwa’s house, a notable politician who claimed to be close to the government of Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The noise of the Youth alerted men and women of the neighborhood when Maduwa intervened by identifying the suspect whom the NIS thought is an illegal immigrant.
According to Maduwa while intimating the NIS officials on patrol in front of his house told them that the suspect is well known to him as someone who worked with him for many years.
Maduwa further said the suspect recently left his house in preparation for his marriage and can never he be an illegal immigrant.
The intervention of Maduwa has scuttled the possible bloody clash between the angered youth who felt their Brother is wrongly arrested by the NIS men and mistaken him to be a foreigner.
The narration of the NIS officials however shows that Ibrahim could be an illegal immigrant because of the kind of Fulfulde (Fulani Language ) he speaks.
According to them the incontinence of his own statement and failed to properly identify himself was another sign that tell much of his status as an illegal immigrant.
The senior officer while explaining the whole scenario to Maduwa said at first instance Ibrahim said he is from Jada, he later change to tell them he is a Fulani Man from Kafachan, Jama’a Local Government area of Adamawa State.
NIS men later regretted the mistaken identity of Ibrahim when he observed his hand to see whether he has the immunization injection or not as one of the proven identity.
According to him is one of the ways they normally know who is a true Nigerian or an immigrant.
“We are sorry for the mistaken identity please “.
