Nollywood was thrown into mourning on the morning of Saturday, May 13, 2023, after the announcement of the demise of veteran Yoruba actor, Mukaila Adedigba, aka Sikiru Adeshina.
Famous Nollywood actor and movie director, Kunle Iyiola Afod, who announced his death via his Instagram page, said the legendary thespian died in the early hours of the day.
Nigerians were still mourning Adedigba when news broke that veteran Nollywood actor, Obinna Nwafor, popularly known as Saint Obi has passed away at the age of 57 after a protracted illness.
Report said Saint Obi died on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the home of one of his siblings in Jos, Plateau State, but disagreement between his siblings delayed the announcement of his demise.
The Black Saturday gave way but only for a Black Sunday as Nigerians were once again confronted with the news of the demise of another actor. Death was announced of popular Yoruba actor, Murphy Afolabi.
Afolabi reportedly died from injuries sustained from falling in his bathroom in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, 2023.
His colleague, Adekola Tijani, aka Kamilu, while speaking at his funeral on Monday, said Afolabi died while he was being rushed to the hospital after slipping in his bathroom.
Barely a few hours after the burial of Afolabi, another Nollywood actress, Wunmi Olowokandi died on Monday night. The cause of her death is yet to be made public.
Earlier, popular Nollywood actor, Chikezie Uwazie died in far away America.
Actress Obey Etok Chima who announced his demise via her Facebook page on Sunday, said Uwazie died in the US after a second brain surgery.
A Nollywood sound engineer known simply as Techno Sound also died recently.
Since the death plague, colleagues, movie executives, celebrities, politicians, and fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the deceased stars.
