Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has turned down the three-years transition plan proposed by Niger’s junta, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.
Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security disclosed this in an interview in Sunday.
General Abdourahamane Tchiani acknowledged plan to return power to civilian rulers in the next three years, added that neither the junta nor the people of Niger want war and remain open to dialogue.
However, Nigerians took to the streets over the weekend to express their support for the military.
This follows ECOWAS’s insistence on invading the country to flush out couple leaders if diplomacy fails to return deposed President Mohamed Bazoum to power.
Also, Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis ll, canvassed a diplomatic solution to the political crisis in Niger Republic on Sunday.
Protesters sang anti-colonialist chants against France and ECOWAS, which have threatened military intervention to restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum if continuing talks with coup leaders fail.
