The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the immediate increment of salaries and welfare packages for judicial officers.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made this known on Friday in Rivers State, during the official commissioning and handing over ceremony of Nabo Graham-Douglass Campus of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt to the Council of Legal Education.
Malami said the increment was done to enhance the capacity and independence of the judiciary, adding that it is to be initiated promptly.
He said, “Let me use this opportunity also to inform you that as part of the effort to enhance the welfare of judicial officers, Mr President has recently approved and enhanced salary and welfare scheme for judicial officers.
“Accordingly the chairman, Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice have been directed to promptly commence measures towards the realisation and implementation of these directives.
“This was done to enhance the capacity and independence of the judiciary which is a pillar of strength to our democracy.”
Malami, who nicknamed Wike ‘Mr Projects’, hailed the governor for the numerous projects he had executed in the state, adding that the Nabo Graham-Douglass Campus, would advance legal education in the country.
He added, “I must commend Wike for completing the project within a record time of one year after receiving approval to go ahead with the structure. It shows his dogged determination.”
