The Federal Government of Nigeria has shifted the 2023 population and housing census, which was originally scheduled to commence on March 29, to May 2023. The rescheduling was triggered by the postponement of governorship elections from March 11 to March 18.
Also, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved 2.8 billion naira for the procurement of software that will be used by the National Population Commission (NPC) to conduct the census.
In addition, the FEC has approved the Nigeria Agenda 2050, which seeks to achieve a seven percent increase in real GDP growth, create 165 million new jobs, and reduce the number of people living in poverty to 2.1 million by 2050.
The plan is part of an effort to move Nigeria towards becoming an Upper Middle-Income Country and eventually a High-Income Country by 2050.
The plan was developed by the National Steering Committee for the Medium-Term National Development Plan 2021-2025 and Nigeria Agenda 2050, which was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
